David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that ANTELMO MOJICA ORTIZ, 48, a citizen of Mexico last residing in Stamford, pleaded guilty yesterday, December 20, before United States District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford to one count of reentry of a removed alien.
According to court documents and statements made in court, in September 2004, MOJICA was convicted in Connecticut Superior Court of assault in the second degree. On November 8, 2005, he was removed from the United States to his native Mexico.
In April 2008, MOJICA, using the name “Jose Guadalupe Mojica-Ortiz,” was convicted in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas of reentry of a removed alien. On May 22, 2008, he again was removed to Mexico.
On April 17, 2011, MOJICA was apprehended in Stamford and was subsequently convicted of threatening in the second degree.
MOJICA did not obtain the consent of the Attorney General of the United States or his successor, the Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, to reapply for admission into the United States.
MOJICA has been detained since his arrest.
Judge Chatigny has scheduled sentencing for March 8, 2012, at which time MOJICA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
