David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that RAMIRO FLORES MORENO, 44, a citizen of Mexico recently residing in New Britain, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to 30 months of imprisonment for illegally reentering the United States following his deportation.
According to court documents and statements made in court, FLORES MORENO, was deported from the United States to his native Mexico in May 1994 following a federal conviction for distribution of cocaine. In approximately February 2000, FLORES MORENO illegally reentered the U.S. without first obtaining the consent of the Attorney General of the United States or his successor, the Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, to reapply for admission into the U.S.
On February 16, 2011, FLORES MORENO was arrested by the Connecticut State Police in Hartford on a narcotics offense. Subsequent investigation revealed that FLORES MORENO was in the country illegally. He has been detained in federal custody since July 2011.
On September 26, 2011, FLORES MORENO waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry of a removed alien.
This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Neeraj Patel.
