STAMFORD -- A New Hampshire teen who crashed his vehicle into a tree off the Merritt Parkway in Stamford on Thursday died early Friday from the injuries he sustained in the accident, according to Stamford Hospital officials.
Hospital spokesman Scott Orstadt said Branden Myers,19, of Chester, N.H., died at approximately 5:30 a.m. Friday.
It took nearly one hour on Thursday morning for emergency service personnel to remove Myers from the vehicle, a beige 2005 Chevy Classic sedan with New Hampshire plates.
Matthew Maounis, assistant chief of the Turn of River fire department, said a surgeon from Stamford Hospital was brought to the scene to assist emergency personnel due to the severity of the victim's condition.
Myers was in critical condition when he was taken to Stamford Hospital at approximately 11 a.m., according to emergency officials.
Maounis said Myers was alone in the vehicle.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. on the northbound portion of the Merritt Parkway near exit 33, the Den Road Exit, where emergency officials reported a car crashing into a tree, with "heavy entrapment" in the vehicle. According to state police, Myers was traveling northbound in the left lane, just north of the Guinea Road overpass, when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed over into the right lane and then into the Parkway's grass shoulder area, where the car struck a tree.
